    I will freely confess that this sort of thing leaves me, well, cold. My basic reaction is pretty much the same as when Ellen came out: “that’s nice, sweetie. Why should I care?”

    I think it’s interesting because it yet again links homosexuality and biology. There are quite a few far-righters who seem to think homosexuality is a choice, when these new findings are actually pointing towards what homosexuals have been saying all along: that it’s what they’ve always been.

    I think this is interesting because it demonstrates the ridiculous lengths that people will go to link any scrap of ‘scientific data’ to their preconceived notions of biology and social identity. I post the piece because I use it as an example of how not to do science, social or otherwise.

    Alex, that’s interesting. So what? Do we have secular humanist picking and choosing scientific gemes to affect a cosmological ordering of the universe a la Levi-Strauss?

    Seems like kind of a totemic ordering of the natural world according to “clan.”

    Could you expand on your comment. What is ridiculous? What do you think is trying to be accomplished and why? What is wrong with the conclusions?
