The List Of Things Officially My Fault Just Got Longer
by Alex
I’m very pleased to announce that I have been selected to become a member of the AnthroSource Steering Committee. “AnthroSource”:http://www.anthrosource.net/ is the American Anthropology Association’s version of JSTOR and they (or, I guess now I should say ‘we’) are trying to build it out into something new and wonderful. While I have some competency thinking about technology and have managed various technology organizations before, I’ve never served on an Official AAA committee before and have no idea how it works or what specifically we will do. However, by signing on to the AnthroSource Steering Committee it does become at least partially my responsibility. So if for some reason you have something to say about AnthroSource, feel free — I am now one of the people you can say it to.
Congratulations! Your next step into bureaucracy ;-) Resistance is futile.
wow, good news. i wish all electronic resources had such a competent thinker on their advisory committee. Maybe this resource be a model for others if any of your ideas come to pass.
awesome (for you and for me.)
i will keep that in mind . . .
I would get my friends to use it a bit and tell you what is wrong with it and what is right with it before the AAA meetings so that you can document things to the people on the committee who think it is perfect (if they exist). I’ve found it not so great and my guess is that your generation of database users has a different approach to them than older people. I’ve been on a couple of AAA committees and it is the older established anthros who often run them – you have lots to offer this one in terms of your expertise and in terms of having access to friends / colleagues who have different needs / skills than older people might.
