Exhausted
by Alex
Wow. I am really, really exhausted and don’t want to write anything for a long time. It took a week or so to really set in, but man… post-defense listlessness. Posts here and elswhere may be intermittent while I extend my solar sails and recharge.
Don’t expect to snap back too fast. The very thought of my dissertation induced nausia for a few months…
so it is not just me, huh?? i can barely respond to folks on email…

I did not yet congratulate, did I? :-)
My dear Dr. Golub, this post-partum otium or ennui will last anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 years. I suggest enjoying it for a little bit, then doing something fun and vibrantly irrelevant for a month or two. In my case, it was cycling around the Galilee and sleeping on a hill next to a bombed-out church with the words MAKE WAR NOT LOVE spraypainted on it.
I bet there are cooler things to do in Hawaii.
But also, he is going to be accompanying me through a series of county and municipal museums in rural southern Shanxi, in search of unpublished Buddhist monuments. The thrills! The chills! The search for reliable flashlight batteries and unexpired film! Indiana Jones is nothing to it.
