Shanghai Knights

My short review of Shanghai Knights has just been posted over at The Block. I plan to do a lot more serious Action Film Criticism. Check it out – I’m pretty happy with it.

I, too, vividly remember a Chicago premiere of a Jackie Chan film at the Art Institute. That’s where I met Margaret, in the summer of ’94. The film was Drunken Master II.
Miracles. I can sit through any of his tripe now and still remember that flick and somehow it’s all good.
And Police Story wasn’t bad either.
I distinctly remember watching Drunken Master II at my cousins’ in Baltimore. I was deeply depressed over a broken relationship and had just flown from Israel to Chicago, and then from Chicago to Baltimore, to defend my dissertation, and I learned that due to scheduling problems I wouldn’t be able to defend it that week but would have to go back to Chicago and fly back again later.
That’s when my cousin Miriam suggested I watch the Big Lebowski. This came next. The consolations of Drunken Mastery.
